Spanish Basketball Summary: Barcelona vs Murcia 57:86 (Sport1)
Othello Hunter has pretty much seen European basketball. The American interior player has been playing on the Old Continent since 2010, won the Euroleague in 2019 and even at the age of 36 his strength is still in his waist, as he proved this season at Bayern Munich.
Recently, however, Ex Maccabi Tel Aviv has had enough of the way American foreigners in Europe are treated. "It was nice to see American players getting longer contracts here in Europe," he tweeted. "People talk about local players having to be the foundation of teams, and that drives me crazy. Do you think American or local actors coming to a new place wouldn't want to be part of a winning culture? Instead, you're constantly looking for the next thing. The next coach, the next cheap player."
Hunter, who finished the season averaging 7.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game, added: "It sucks that you're not trying to build a winning culture. If teams respected their players, they wouldn't change 4-5 new players every year and wonder why they didn't make the Final Four. I really think players would stay for longer periods if they knew they were valued. Longer contracts equalize group identity and culture. There's more time to build a great team you can count on."

"At the end of the day, to build a winning culture in Europe, you need both foreigners and locals," he concluded. "I'm tired of seeing the disrespect for foreign players in Europe. You don't build a team culture with just local players, but with the right players. Don't forget that we all need each other in basketball, and in the world as well."
