Highlights: New president Michael Winger has been "given the light to rebuild" at the Wizards and is expected to make many changes. Dani Avdija is entering the final season of his rookie contract and will decide whether to extend his contract. If Winger decides as part of the rebuilding process to waive a contract extension for Abadia, he could become a free agent at the end of the season. The word 'tanking' is outside owner Ted Leonsis's lexicon, but the term'rebuild' certainly fits here.

A new era in Washington: Michael Winger, general manager of the Los Angeles Clippers until recently, has been named president of the team and, at least according to initial clues, he may overhaul the roster.

"Washington has given Winger the green light to do whatever it takes with the current roster, including a complete rebuild," The Athletic reports. This means the Warriors may try to build themselves through the draft, rather than by recruiting stars in trades. The word 'tanking' is outside owner Ted Leonsis's lexicon, but the term 'rebuild' certainly fits here."

That may be a worrying sign for Dani Avdía, who is entering the final season of his rookie contract and will decide whether to extend his contract. If Winger decides as part of the rebuilding process to waive a contract extension for Abadia, he could become a free agent at the end of the season.

"Winger is allowed to do whatever he wants with the existing roster. It's clear to everyone that this squad just isn't good enough," The Athletic explains. That doesn't mean the Wizards trade Bradley Beal tomorrow, or that they necessarily won't extend contracts for Kyle Kuzma and Kristaps Porzingis this summer. But it certainly means that extensive changes to the roster are planned."
