In November last year, English football erupted following reports of a serious gambling affair involving Brentford and England striker Ivan Toney. Tony was not called up to the England team at the time due to the suspicions, and after it was reported in recent months that he had been suspended from all activity for 8 months due to repeated violations of the regulations, the exact indictment filed against him was revealed.
According to the Football Association, Toney pleaded guilty to 232 counts of breaches of gambling regulations that occurred between February 2017 and January 2021. The indictment details 13 different cases in which Tony gambled on his team's losses in 7 different games (in which he himself did not participate). Toney also gambled on 16 different occasions on his team's wins in 15 games.
