"You could always rely on him": Touré to leave Eintracht in the summer

On Wednesday morning, Eintracht made it official: defender Almamy Touré will not renew his contract, which expires in the summer, and will leave the club after four and a half years. He has been on the field in 80 competitive games so far. He scored three goals and contributed six assists.

"Almamy has experienced a lot with Eintracht in recent years and you could always rely on him when he was needed," said sporting director Markus Krösche. The 27-year-old moved from Monaco to the Main in 2019 for a transfer fee of 750,000 euros.

Touré will be remembered "forever" as a Europa League winner at the SBU

In the press release, Eintracht paid particular tribute to Touré's commitment in the legendary 2021/2022 Europa League season, which the Eagles concluded by winning the competition. "Of course, the triumph in Seville, where he was also on the pitch and made his contribution, will forever be remembered," said Krösche.

At that time, the Malian defender played in every game from the quarter-finals onwards. In the Europa League final against Glasgow Rangers, which Frankfurt won 6-5 on penalties, Touré played through. "We are very grateful to him for this and wish him all the best for his future career," said the Eintracht sporting director.

Frankfurt defender Touré has only made eight appearances this season

This season, however, he was largely sidelined and only played eight competitive games, partly due to injury. He has been in the starting line-up in each of the last three Bundesliga games. According to Bild, talks about a contract extension are said to have failed as early as February due to the Malian's salary expectations.

It is still unclear where Touré will go now. The farewell of his defensive colleague Evan Ndicka, who could now surprisingly stay in Frankfurt, also seemed to be certain for a long time. (wuc)
