Finally, the International Ski Federation (FIS) has now announced a new major event: the "FIS Games", which are to be held in the seasons without the Winter Olympics and World Championships. As the FIS has now announced, the first "FIS Games" will be held in 2028. This was approved by the Association's Council at the 54th FIS Congress. The major event, which will take place every four years like the Olympics, will extend over 16 days.
Meanwhile, it is intended to represent "the whole range of winter sports, both in Olympic and non-Olympic sports - and of course also in para-snow sports," according to the FIS. With the Games, she wants to introduce "the biggest of all winter sports events" and thus revolutionize the skiing world, which is currently being held in suspense by the fate of jumper Dawid Kubacki and his seriously ill wife, among others.

Revolutionary "FIS Games" aim to be "pioneers in sustainability and inclusion"
In an official statement, the federation announced a "groundbreaking celebration that will bring the FIS family together like never before". If possible, the Games will be hosted by several host regions. The aim of the new mega-event is to "create an exhilarating experience for spectators and athletes on site and an exciting and rich programme of events for visitors", according to the FIS.
It is also important to the FIS to be a "pioneer in terms of sustainability and inclusion" with the Games. They are therefore to take place in sports facilities that have already been built. It has not yet been decided where the first "FIS Games" will be held in five years. The German Ski Association (DSV) has not yet commented on whether it plans to host the competitions.

Interested nations have until August 1 to submit a letter of intent with the necessary organizational details, before the official application must be on the table of the world federation by November 1 at the latest. After an examination phase, the host will be elected and announced by the FIS Council in spring 2024.
