As champions of the Regionalliga Bayern, SpVgg Unterhaching is qualified for the promotion games to the 3rd league. But does the football club also compete? A hanging game.
Unterhaching – SpVgg Unterhaching celebrated winning the championship in the Regionalliga Bayern last weekend with 7500 fans (we reported), but will the football club even compete in the promotion relegation games to the 3rd league against Energie Cottbus? A question that has not yet been clearly answered by the SpVgg.
SpVgg President Manfred Schwabl said on the ARD microphone: "We will announce in due course whether we can take the hurdle." The time for this is around the last league game this Friday (18 p.m.) at 1. There will be "no hara-kiri action," Schwabl said. He was "conditionally optimistic" that Haching would compete in the relegation games (which would be on June 7 in Cottbus and on June 11 in Unterhaching). Some time ago, the club boss had emphasized the challenge of a possible promotion and told the German Press Agency (dpa): "We will certainly not go on any adventures in Unterhaching that put the infrastructure or the youth sector at stake. Young talent and infrastructure are the most important assets we have as a club."
Should SpVgg Unterhaching refrain from participating in the relegation play-offs, the Würzburger Kickers would move up as runners-up. Both Energie Cottbus and Würzburg as well as the fans want planning security as soon as possible: Where is the journey going? From club circles of the SpVgg it is said that they are currently preparing as if they were competing for relegation.
