While there are still two rounds left in the Spanish league, Real Madrid have effectively finished the 2022/23 season. The Blancos ended the season with wins of the Spanish Cup, the European Supercup and the Club World Cup, but the league saw Barcelona run away on their way to the title and were eliminated from the Champions League with defeat to Manchester City in the semi-finals. In light of this, the Spanish capital is already planning for next season and understands that they will need to make some changes to the squad in order to return and compete for the two major titles.

Spain understands that after another season in which all the weight fell on the teenage Karim Benzema, this summer Real will have to sign another striker. Madrid are debating whether to bring in a striker at a discounted price to serve as a replacement, or whether to bring in another star who will collaborate with Benzema and in time also succeed him. If the outgoing European champions opt for the latter, coach Carlo Ancelotti's preferred name is Harry Kane, according to Haas.

The Tottenham striker had a superb individual season with 28 league goals, but from a team perspective it has been a catastrophic year for Spurs, who can only get their ticket to the Conference League in the final round. With the Englishman out of contract next summer, if he doesn't want to make a long-term commitment, this summer is the Londoners' last chance to earn a significant sum from his sale.

Ancelotti sees Kane as an ideal partner for Benzema, and one who can push him to the edge despite his advanced age. However, there is strategic consideration over whether to tension a senior striker as the Blancos are aiming to land Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland in 2024.

If such a deal does go through, the candidate to do the opposite to reduce costs is Eden Hazard. The Belgian is in poor form and the Blancos would love to get rid of him a year before the end of his contract, but surprisingly Spurs still want him in the hope that in the Premier League he can replicate his days at Chelsea.

Meanwhile, Madrid are also beginning to search for a replacement for Marco Asensio, who on Friday informed Real that he was turning down an offer to extend his contract beyond this summer. AS reported that the leading candidate to replace the winger is another Spaniard, 23-year-old Brahim Diaz, who will return on loan from AC Milan although the Rossoneri would love to buy him. Real believe Dias is ready for the challenge after three years at Milan and see him as a new "signing" for all intents and purposes with no transfer fees.

Another attacking player who belonged to Real, but whose return is now not on the agenda, is Taka Kubo. The great Japanese now belongs to Sociedad who have put a €60 million price tag on him, with the Blancos having the right to match any offer on him and bring him back. However, Real does not intend to invest such a sum in it, and is therefore expected to give up any contractual relationship with it.
