The last matchday of the 2022/23 Bundesliga season had many surprises in store. In addition to the championship, the decisions about relegation and the European Cup were made.

Munich – An incredibly exciting matchday is coming to an end. Both the race for the championship, as well as the tug-of-war for the European Cup places and the relegation battle were exciting until the end. The events of Bundesliga matchday 34 at a glance:

Matchday 34: Championship

It hasn't been this dramatic since 2001. In an absolute spectacle, FC Bayern secures the title. And that was quite a bit of work. After Kingsley Coman took the lead, Cologne equalised with a penalty kick through Ljubicic. In the penultimate minute, Jamal Musiala's goal made it 2-1.

Dortmund, on the other hand, did not get beyond a 2-2 draw in their home game against Mainz, especially BVB missed the early stages.

Matchday 34: European Cup

It was already clear that Bayern, BVB and RB Leipzig would play in the coming Champions League season. On the last matchday, it was all about whether Union Berlin or SC Freiburg would secure fourth place and thus qualification for the Champions League.

The Unioners won against Werder Bremen thanks to a goal from Rani Khedira, while Freiburg lost 1-2 in the away game at Eintracht Frankfurt after taking a lead. Thus, the Breisgauer qualify for the Europa League as fifth in the table.

After a defeat against relegated Hertha BSC, VfL Wolfsburg had to let Leverkusen pass them, even though Bayer lost significantly in Bochum. As a result, the Werkself will play in the Conference League play-offs next season, while the Wolves missed out on sixth place and even had to let Eintracht pass them by. The Frankfurters also play internationally, as they still have the cup final against third-placed Leipzig ahead of them. Whether they will ultimately compete in the Europa League or the Conference League will be decided on 3 June.
