The Giro could have been played on an unfortunate chain jump. While competing this Saturday in the 20th stage of the Giro d'Italia, Primoz Roglic suffered a mechanical problem during a climb.
😱 Unbelievable, but true: chain jumping at the worst time for Primoz Roglic, it smells (very) good the final victory for Geraint Thomas on this #Giro! #LesRP pic.twitter.com/HvmOPf0lAq

But despite his chain jump, and while Geraint Thomas seemed to be heading for a victory in this Giro d'Italia, Primoz Roglic managed to take 40 seconds from the Briton - who collapsed in the last meters - to take the first place in the general classification.
His first Giro on the list of winners
A lead of 14 seconds in total, and a pink jersey obtained on the eve of the last stage, synonymous with a certain coronation for the Slovenian. His first Giro title, in three participations. His fourth title in a grand tour, he who has already won in Spain in 2019, 2020 and 2021.
The outcome of the day, which should crown Primoz Roglic while the title seemed destined for another, also serves as revenge for the Slovenian rider. In 2020, he wore the yellow jersey for 11 days during the Tour de France, before having his hair done at the post by Tadej Pogacar during the 20th stage, and finishing second.
