Tampere - The German national ice hockey team surpassed itself at the World Championships in Tampere, Finland. After three defeats at the beginning of the tournament against Sweden, Finland and the USA, four convincing victories followed, which brought the team of national coach Harold Kreis fourth place in the preliminary round group. In the quarter-finals, the DEB team pulled off a real coup, as Switzerland was knocked out of the World Cup tournament 3-1.
Germany vs USA: Who will advance to the final?
What's in it now? "Everything," replied striker and leader Nico Sturm: "Why shouldn't we win two more games?" However, the success against Switzerland cost the team a lot of energy. "I didn't feel my legs at all for the last ten minutes. I'm incredibly proud of the team, how everyone fought for each other. Unbelievable," said Sturm on the TV channel Sport1.
Harold Kreis was very proud of his troops: "I can only take my hat off again and again. We know that it's all about unconditional support for each other and togetherness," said the national coach at the broadcaster MagentaSport. In the semi-finals, Germany will face the USA, who have won all eight games at the World Cup and have become the top favourites for the title.

Germany vs USA: DEB selection back in Finland
In the preliminary round there was a narrow defeat against the USA for the DEB selection, which was equal and could have won the game. Incidentally, the German national team will return to Tampere, Finland, where they also played all their group matches. For the quarter-finals against Switzerland, she had to travel to Riga, Latvia. So now against the USA, the team is playing in their usual hall again. (smr)
