More teams will strive to reach the playoffs • The quality of the players is expected to improve • Panathinaikos and Efes Anadolu want to return to the top • Barcelona will undergo a real revolution • Maccabi Tel Aviv has a promising starting point • First forecast

The 2022/2023 Euroleague season ended a few days ago, when the trophy was hoisted by Real Madrid players. While the festivities at the Spanish club are in full swing, all eyes are already on next season, with a first attempt to predict the changes and trends that will accompany the 2023/2024 season.

The season that just ended was very evenly matched and very crowded, and it seems that this is going to be a much more crowded and competitive team next season, as a number of teams that "were not in the game" in 2022/2023 are about to return to the picture.

It is estimated that 15 of the 18 teams participating next season will set themselves the goal of reaching the playoffs. The leaders will continue to set the tone, but there are enough other teams with the potential to become more qualitative.

The not-so-new lineup

The Euroleague plans to increase the number of teams in the factory, but that will not happen next season. Meanwhile, the changes in the identity of the participating groups are also marginal. Seventeen of the 17 teams that played at the factory last season will continue, with the substitution

The only one is supposed to be a Spanish face: Gran Canaria, the Eurocup champions, will replace Valencia.

The thing is that the group has not yet decided whether to redeem the ticket given to it. Should Gran Canaria concede, one of the candidates to take her place will be her deputy, Turk Telecom Ankara.

Planning a comeback

Even before the end of the season, we had already learned about the big comeback. Panathinaikos, which has emerged from the top picture in recent years and was a bottom team last season, is making all the signs that it is coming back and simply storming into next season.

Coach Ergin Othman will arrive from Anadolu Efes and should rebuild everything with a big investment, with quite a few big names already marked.

His ex, the two-year Euroleague champion (who didn't make the playoffs last season) will also do a system overhaul to return. So did the two Italians: Armani Milano and Virtus Bologna who did not register success.

Bayern Munich signed a coach of serious magnitude, Pablo Lasso, in order to aim high, and even those who succeeded will not remain silent - for example, Monaco will increase its budget and Fenerbahce will not settle for less than a Final Four.

Yellow, stable, and promising

Among those who will expect an upgrade next season will also be Maccabi Tel Aviv. After the season reached the playoffs, Maccabi will try to take the extra step forward. Unlike last summer, she is doing well. It doesn't need a revolution in the roster and most of it is already closed. Good base for next season.

Barcelona where to?

The future of one of the empires is uncertain. Barcelona disappointed this season by not reaching the final, and next season will see a big change. It is estimated that about a quarter of the group's budget will be cut. Half of the squad will leave, and that may include big star Nikola Mirotic.

The future of coach Sharonas Jaskevičius is also still unclear. The Final Four semi-final loss to Real Madrid did not advance his chances of staying another season.

Red Star will be especially active

There are still no official signings for the next Euroleague season, but there are already directions and some very interesting transfers are emerging, centered on Red Star Belgrade, which is expected to part ways with Facundo Campazzo - he is on his way back to Real Madrid.

The Red Star may also part ways with Luca Vildoza, who is in Panathinaikos' crosshairs as a key cog in the revolution the Greeks are planning. The Serbs, on the other hand, are set to get back Nikola Kalinic from Barcelona.
