It's never easy. Relegation is one of the most, if not the hardest, feelings a team can experience. An entire season of poor results manifests itself in struggles for survival, at the end of which the club drops out to a less senior league, and usually this also leads to changes in the squad, professional staff or even management.
Espanyol experienced that disappointment again on Sunday when it was relegated to the Spanish Primera División after just two seasons, following a dramatic 2-2 draw with Valencia deep into extra time.
The painful milestone led the club's management to issue a somewhat unusual message to its fans on social media: "There are no words to comfort you at a moment like this. All we have to do is say: We are sorry. We'll be back (in the top league)."
No hi ha paraules per consolar-vos en aquests moments. Només podem dir: ho sentim. Tornarem.#RCDE pic.twitter.com/frRfnbpaOt
