But Heidenheim turned the situation around with two goals (90th+3 and 90th+9) to finish at the top of the league with 67 pts, tied with Darmstadt. Both clubs are directly promoted and Hamburg (66 pts) will have to go through a play-off. In a video shared by Sky Sports, the faces of the Hamburgers are seen decomposing on the pitch, realizing that the climb is slipping away from them.
Hamburg will face Stuttgart, 16th in the Bundesliga, in a home-and-away play-off (June 1 and June 5). This time, the club from northern Germany will not depend on any other result than its own.
