My Area

Tomas equalises for VfB Stuttgart

80th minute: Now he's in! After a long ball to Tomas, he hits the ball into the net to make it 1-1. The goal is checked by the VAR, but it counts.

77th minute: Almost the equalizer! Millot, however, only slams the leather against the crossbar.

Bebou scores for TSG to take the lead against VfB

75th minute: TSG take the lead out of nowhere! After a cross from the left, the free-standing Bebou heads in to give Hoffenheim a 1-0 lead.

70th minute: Mini-chance for Stuttgart: Sosa crosses from the right, Mavropano's header goes over.

68th minute: Substitute Tomas has the first chance, but the Stuttgart man shoots at Baumann.

62nd minute: What an opportunity! Silas storms with a lot of power over the right and plays the leather into the back of Führich, who still finishes to the left of the goal - over it! It's unbelievable.

53rd minute: Stuttgart for the first time in the second half: Silas steals the ball from Nsoki on the right side of the goal line. But he can't get the leather on the case.

52nd minute: There is a strange atmosphere in the former Neckarstadion: between fear and encouragement.

46th minute: The ball is rolling again. What do we have in store for us now? It feels like there's something in the air.

Mid-term conclusion: You can feel in almost every action that the VfB players are aware of the relevance of the game. Although the Swabians control the action, their knees tremble in front of the goal. Apart from a few pinpricks in the form of counterattacks, hardly anything comes from Hoffenheim.

HALF TIME

40th minute: That doesn't exist! Silas sends Guirassy into the lane, who shoots flat just to the left. He has to do it.

29th minute: Once again, a delicate approach to goal: Führich dribbles into the penalty area and passes on to Endo, who can't give the ball the decisive direction.

22nd minute: The Swabians' knees are still shaking in front of the opponent's goal. VfB have just appeared in front of TSG keeper Baumann, but neither Silas nor Guirassy can get the ball in the direction of the box.

18th minute: That has to be the lead! Endo puts the leather through to Vagnoman, who shoots the ball over. Apparently, however, it was offside.

17th minute: Stuttgart are now dominating the action here, there is nothing to be seen of TSG here.

11th minute: First chance for VfB: A long ball from Endo reaches Vagnoman, who shoots the ball past from inside the penalty area on the right.

10th minute: The nervousness is palpable here. Both teams push the ball back and forth at low speed.

5th minute: It's a cautious start in the Mercedes-Benz Arena. VfB initially tried to control the game.

1st minute: Referee Robert Schröder blows the whistle for the relegation final for VfB. Will the Swabians succeed in staying in the league?

KICK-OFF

When will VfB Stuttgart stay in the league, when will they be relegated? Relegation is also possible

As in the previous season, VfB Stuttgart can save themselves directly on the last matchday. If the Swabians win, they will continue to play first-class next season. In the event of a draw against Hoffenheim, Bochum and Schalke should not win, then VfB would also be saved. If Stuttgart even loses, direct relegation would be achieved if Bochum loses and S04 does not win.

VfB would have to go into the relegation if they draw their own and if either Schalke or Bochum wins. If VfB loses, VfL scores and Schalke does not win, Stuttgart will also go into the relegation play-offs.

The worst-case scenario would be a direct relegation of Stuttgart. The Swabians would have to make the bitter transition to League 2 if they only get a draw against TSG and their rivals Bochum and Schalke both win. If VfB loses, Bochum would only not have to lose and win S04, then the third relegation within seven years would also be a done deal for Stuttgart.

Borna Sosa is back in the starting line-up at VfB Stuttgart, Zagadou's involvement is questionable

In the run-up to the game against TSG Hoffenheim, VfB coach Sebastian Hoeneß has made it clear that Borna Sosa will play again. "Borna is fit and makes a good impression. If he stays fit, he'll play, there's no discussion for me. It is an important factor for us. He's trained for this position," the Stuttgart coach explained. Against Mainz 05, Nikolas Nartey replaced the Croatian at left-back, who was sidelined at short notice due to inflammation in his mouth and throat.

Meanwhile, the use of Dan-Axel Zagadou, who was substituted against Mainz due to a head injury, is questionable. Although this no longer causes him any problems, the Frenchman is now plagued by foot problems, so that a failure is likely. Nevertheless, Hoeneß has a "faint hope" that Zagadou will be fit in time for the game against Hoffenheim. If this is not the case, Konstantinos Mavropanos replaces him.

TSG Hoffenheim already saved: Pellegrino Matarazzo still wants to win against former club VfB Stuttgart

With a 4-2 win against FC Union Berlin, TSG Hoffenheim managed to stay in the league last matchday. Thus, the Kraichgauer is spared a relegation final against VfB Stuttgart. Nevertheless, TSG want to win. Ahead of his return to his old place of work, former Stuttgart coach Pellegrino Matarazzo told Sky: "I wish TSG to win and VfB stay in the league. This is not diplomatic, but the truth, which I feel. We are competitors. I'm the coach of TSG. We're going there to score points."

VfB Stuttgart have put themselves in a good position to achieve their goal of staying in the league

Stuttgart - After VfB Stuttgart's 4-1 win over Mainz 05, the Swabians should be relieved at least for a short time. As a result, they have their salvation on the last matchday against TSG Hoffenheim in their own hands. A win is needed, then the results in the other places are irrelevant for VfB, who in this case would also play first division football next year.
