Exciting season finale in the district class: SpVgg Schwabbruck/Schwabsoien managed to stay in the league - thanks to a goal in the final phase.

Schwabbruck – Stefan Neumeier was given the first dose of tasty food – and that was absolutely fitting. The player with the number twelve was also allowed to take a sip without being prosecuted for drinking in his jersey – otherwise frowned upon.

With his late winning goal to make it 2-1 over SV Prittriching, Neumeier had ensured that SpVgg Schwabbruck/Schwabsoien was able to celebrate direct relegation to the district class at the end of a nerve-wracking game. From the relegation round I, SV Haspelmoor (2-0 in Rott) goes into the relegation, FSV Eching (3-0 over Wielenbach) is relegated.

The successes of the competition were soon indicated; the intermediate results were, of course, known on the Schwabbruck sports field. Player-coach Bastian Mayr found it "madness" that all three relegation candidates won in the end. In view of the Haspelmoor leadership, the Schwabbruck/Schwabsoiener were forced to win. The 0-1 deficit was a real blow to the office – especially since SpVgg practically put the ball into the net themselves in this action. "You could tell that there was something at stake," said Mayr, addressing a certain nervousness.

But the hosts showed fighting spirit and will. In a strong phase, Dennis Messmer and Stefan Ola failed in quick succession with long-range shots (23rd); Matthias Kögel came a step too late with a pass (25th). Following a header, Messmer headed over it (27th). Prittriching almost scored the second goal, but a brilliant save by SpVgg keeper Stefan Hofmann prevented this (34th).

After the break, the hosts continued their efforts. David Bauch shot over the goal after a cross pass from Florian Bauer (48th). Luckily then with a counter-move that Prittriching's Adrian Iral shot just past (55th). A wide diagonal pass initiated the equaliser: Maximilian Stögbauer skilfully asserted himself on the left and scored to make it 1-1 (60th). But it was clear: another goal was needed. Messmer narrowly missed with a 25-metre free kick (75th), and substitute Neumeier was also unlucky (80th). A free kick brought the rescue: Franziskus Reich crossed into the penalty area, Neumeier headed - and the ball was in the net to make it 2-1 (85th). Prittriching did not want to admit defeat, in the end the SpVgg defended the lead skillfully. When the sovereign referee Walter Timm blew the final whistle, there was jubilation and relief on the part of SpVgg.

"The lads deserve to stay in," said player-coach Bastian Mayr. The team has freed itself from a difficult situation with dedication. "Six weeks ago, everything looked different," says Mayr. After the fourth matchday, SpVgg was in last place, three points behind the penultimate. Not least with a strong defensive performance (only ten goals conceded in ten games) the turnaround succeeded. According to Mayr, Franziskus Reich, Dennis Messmer and Robert Starker proved to be the great pillars in defence. "We can also keep up in terms of play," the coach stressed. However, there was a lack of scoring – SpVgg scored only ten goals in the relegation round. The problem was already apparent in the autumn round; they only scored 14 goals in 14 games.

For Bastian Mayr (38), formerly of FC Augsburg and FC Memmingen, SpVgg is his first stop as a coach. The first season "wasn't easy". However, he hopes that the club is satisfied. He expressly thanked his father Norbert Mayr. "He was brutally supportive."
