The Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz did not tremble for his entry into the competition at Roland-Garros by disposing of the Italian Flavio Cobolli (6-0, 6-2, 7-5), 159th and from qualifying, who only hung on in the 3rd set. In the next round, the world No. 1 will face Japan's Taro Daniel (112th). In an open edition as never before for men, the two main favorites, Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic, did not miss their entry at the Porte d'Auteuil.

Alcaraz's 2023 record, on clay in particular, speaks for itself. Juan Carlos Ferrero's protégé has piled up more wins than anyone else on ochre, by far: 21 in 22 matches played, from the South American tour in February, where he launched his 2023 season late, to the European tour. This earned him three titles, in Buenos Aires, Barcelona, and especially Madrid, plus a final in Rio.
