12:30 p.m. – Judo Association vs. Olympic Committee
Judo Association Chairman Moshe Ponti issued a letter to the heads of the Olympic sports associations on Tuesday expressing concern about a change in regulations proposed by the Olympic Committee that he claimed would harm the professionalism and independence of the sports associations.
Ponti wrote: "It is not enough that the Olympic Committee is not composed solely of people from the branches, but from the Football Association, the Basketball Association and the sports centers, when the power of the Olympic branches is small and insignificant, now the Olympic Committee aspires to appropriate budgetary and professional decisions for itself."
Ponti also gave examples: "Is there anyone in the Olympic Committee who can advise David Marsh, the head coach of Israeli swimming, in swimming, is there anyone in the Olympic Committee who can professionally explain something in rhythmic gymnastics to Ayelet Zussman who led Linoy Ashram to Olympic gold? Is there a laggard who can tell Sergei Weisburg, the coach of Olympic champion Artyom Dolgopiat, how to train? Aren't Shani Hershko and Oren Smadja, who won world championships as coaches and Olympic medals, professional figures, so much so that the IOC feels such a strong need to intervene?"
