The first round at Roland Garros ended with a sensational surprise on Tuesday as Daniil Medvedev, ranked No. 2 in Paris, packed a pair and ended his career in the tournament following a five-set loss 7-5, 6-7(6), 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 against Thiago Seivot Wilde of Brazil, ranked 172nd in the world.
The 23-year-old Brazilian, who completed a turnaround and won the last two sets, completed the sensation after four and a quarter hours of fine tennis.

Norway's Casper Ruud (4) did his part at the expense of Elias Ymer who won 4-6, 3-6, 2-6 in 129 minutes. Sasha Zverev of Germany advanced to the second round with 6:7(6), 6:7(0), 1:6 at the expense of Lloyd Harris of South Africa.

In the women's, Yelena Rybakina (4th, Kazakhstan) did not work hard against Brenda Prokhvirtova after an easy 4-6, 2-6. Coco Goff (6, USA) is also next with a 6-3, 1-6, 2-6 victory over Spain's Rebecca Massarova.
