He came in as a beacon of hope for the right side of Munich's defence: Joao Cancelo. However, for him, the FC Bayern chapter is probably already over.

Munich – His appearance in front of the fans after Bayern's last home game against Leipzig spoke volumes. Manchester City loanee Joao Cancelo is likely to leave FC Bayern after the season. The Munich team does not exercise the purchase option for the right-back. He probably has no future under Pep Guardiola in Manchester – instead, the Portuguese could end up at another top club.

Joao Pedro Cavaco Cancelo
Born:May 27, 1994 (aged 29 years), Barreiro, Portugal
Position:Right-back

Market value:60 million euros (source: transfermarkt.de)

70 million euros: FC Bayern does not exercise the purchase option for loan Cancelo

According to information from Sky, Bayern officials are letting the purchase option for the Portuguese defender expire. This is said to be around 70 million euros – but that's too much for the record champions. Even a loan extension, which had been in the room in the meantime, is probably off the table.

According to Sky, the fired sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic is said to have been working on a permanent commitment. With Brazzo's dismissal from Bayern, however, long-term employment of the right-back is no longer an issue. Bayern defender Benjamin Pavard's future probably doesn't lie in Munich either.

Cancelo failed to impress at Bayern – return to parent club Manchester City for the time being

Cancelo himself has already been informed that Munich is not planning with him. He joined Bayern on loan from English champions Manchester City in January this year and has since made 21 competitive appearances.

He scored one goal and provided six assists, but was not really convincing in the jersey of the record champions. Thus, Cancelo returns to his parent club after his loan expires in July, where he is still under contract until 2027.

He probably has no future at Manchester City: Is Cancelo still Bayer now moving to Barcelona?

However, the 29-year-old's stay at City is "rather unlikely", reports Sky. Cancelo had been a regular player for the "Sky Blues" for a long time. However, shortly before his move to FC Bayern, he had clashed with City coach Pep Guardiola and had insisted on a departure – the German record champions struck.

Now Cancelo could end up at FC Barcelona. But before a transfer can be made, the Spanish top club must first set some financial course.

So while Cancelo, a Portuguese full-back, is leaving Munich, another could move there: Dortmund's Raphael Guerreiro is probably on Bayern's shopping list. (wuc)
