Garbiñe Muguruza did not show up for the current Roland Garros tournament as part of the freedom she decided to take from the tour, but the former Wimbledon champion recently returned to the headlines under rather happy circumstances - when she announced her intention to marry her boyfriend.

But this is not just another partner, but a fairy-tale love story. It all started in the summer of 2021, when the Spaniard was in New York for the US Open. "My hotel was close to Central Park and I was bored, so I went for a walk," she said. "Suddenly I met him on the street. He turned around and said, 'Good luck at the U.S. Open.' I thought, 'Wow, he's so handsome.'"

This chance encounter led to a real relationship, daily trips to Central Park and also falling in love with compatriot Arthur Borges, a model by profession. This week, Borges proposed marriage. "I was thinking about something else, and suddenly he suggested. I started crying," the tennis player said. "I didn't know how to react. It was very romantic."
