Maccabi Tel Aviv will begin its playoff semi-final series against Hapoel Holon tonight, but in the meantime there is another Maccabi, at the other end of the world, that has secured the championship.
This is the Hebrew Maccabi from Uruguay, or by its Spanish name "Maccabi Hibarica", which won the fourth championship in its history tonight (between Monday and Tuesday) after completing a 2-4 victory in the final series over Nacional with an 71:84 victory.
Like its Israeli counterpart, Uruguayan Maccabi also plays in yellow and blue and the Star of David adorns its emblem. For coach Leonardo Silberstein's team, this is the fourth championship in its history, having also won in 2012, 2016 and 2017.
