After the personnel quake at FC Bayern and the public exchange of blows between Oliver Kahn and those responsible, Uli Hoeneß speaks out.

Munich – Turbulent days lie behind FC Bayern. At the moment of winning the German championship, it became known that sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic and board boss Oliver Kahn would have to take their hats off, the personnel quake completely overshadowed the exciting championship final with the better end for the Munich team.

Herbert Hainer says: "We were not able to reach an amicable agreement"

Shortly thereafter, media reports circulated that Kahn had "freaked out" when he learned of his dismissal last Thursday. Bayern president Herbert Hainer put it similarly at the presentation of Kahn's successor Jan-Christian Dreesen on Sunday. The conversation was very emotional, "we couldn't come to an amicable agreement with him at the end of the day," he said.

Kahn saw the situation somewhat differently, a few minutes before the PK he denied via Twitter that he had "freaked out" when he was dismissed. He also claimed that there had been a "calm and matter-of-fact" conversation.

Uli Hoeneß speaks up: This is how the conversation with Oliver Kahn went

Now Bayern patron Uli Hoeness, who attended the conversation with Kahn, is speaking out. He supported Hainer's presentation at the press conference. "It wasn't a pleasant conversation," Hoeneß told the sports magazine Kicker. In the conversation, Kahn verbally attacked his successor, Dreesen. That is why he was advised not to travel to Cologne in order to avoid further escalation.

So far so good. But when asked whether it was ultimately a mistake to make Kahn the boss of the board, Hoeneß said: "In retrospect, you have to say that. Oliver is a highly intelligent man, the exchange with him is fun. The big disappointment is that I thought he could fill the office on his own by virtue of his personality, but instead he surrounded himself with his advisors."

Harsh words from the Bayern patron in the direction of Kahn – but at the same time he is also trying to find conciliatory words for the former FC Bayern goalkeeper. "I have a lot of respect for the person, as a player he has done a lot. Even if he didn't live up to expectations as CEO, my door is always open for Oliver."

Hoeneß hopes for calm after dismissal of Kahn and Salihamidzic

Hoeneß also makes it clear that Kahn's advisors in the background were partly responsible for "the catastrophically bad mood". FC Bayern's image has suffered, and the Südkurve and the Ultras have demanded a change. Now the club gets exactly this and Hoeneß hopes that some peace will return. "We need peace and quiet, not the total hustle and bustle that has prevailed lately," he said in Kicker. (msb)
