Police take a stand on football tournament brawl: confusion about the condition of the victim

Frankfurt – On the Whitsun weekend, the Germany Cup 07 was held on the grounds of the Frankfurt football club SV Viktoria Preußen 2023.

Brawl at Germany Cup in Frankfurt - teenager seriously injured

At the youth tournament, international teams competed against each other in different age groups on Saturday and Sunday. What started out as fun turned into bitter seriousness on Sunday (28 May).

After a match, a brawl broke out with several people on the third day of the tournament. A teenager was seriously injured and then taken to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. At least this was confirmed by the perpetrator's lawyer and an official of the Hessian Football Association to the Frankfurter Rundschau.

Police confirm brawl: perpetrator only 16 years old

On Tuesday morning, the responsible police authority, together with the Frankfurt public prosecutor's office, published their information on the course of the incident.

Accordingly, it came on Sunday afternoon on a sports field in the Hügelstraße around 16.10 clock to a "player tumult, which escalated in a brawl between the players". The perpetrator, a 16-year-old Frenchman, is said to have beaten a 15-year-old Berliner against "head or neck".

Brawl at Germany Cup: victim suffered "life-threatening brain injuries"

As a result, the victim was resuscitated and transported to a nearby hospital by the summoned rescue workers. There, the medical team found "life-threatening brain injuries", but the police did not initially speak of a death. When asked, the public prosecutor's office says that the victim is brain dead.

"The 16-year-old perpetrator was arrested and brought before a magistrate the following day. He issued a pre-trial arrest warrant," the police conclude their remarks and also call for further information on what happened to be communicated by telephone.
