A brawl at the Germany Cup 2023 in Frankfurt/Main has a bitter ending. Prosecutor's office confirms: 15-year-old declared brain dead.
May 31 update: After violent riots following an encounter at the Germany Cup youth tournament in Frankfurt am Main, there was initially uncertainty about the state of health of a 15-year-old. At the request of the Sports Information Service, the public prosecutor's office has now confirmed that the boy has been declared brain dead. The alleged perpetrator has been remanded in custody.
Beatings to the head and neck have led to brain death
According to the police, the victim suffered blows to the head and neck, which ultimately led to the brain death of the JFC Berlin player. The alleged perpetrator, a 16-year-old player from the French club FC Metz, had been provisionally arrested and was remanded in custody on Monday. On its website, FC Metz is "stunned" and says that the suspected player denies "intentionally causing physical harm to the young injured player".
Police say that on Sunday afternoon "after the final whistle of a football match, there was a player riot that escalated into a brawl between the players". Bernd Schultz, President of the Berlin Football Association, expressed the association's condolences "to all relatives and team members in these difficult hours".

Brawl at Germany Cup in Frankfurt - teenager seriously injured
First reported on 30 May: Frankfurt – On the Whitsun weekend, the Germany Cup 07 was held on the grounds of the Frankfurt football club SV Viktoria Preußen 2023.
At the youth tournament, international teams competed against each other in different age groups on Saturday and Sunday. What started out as fun turned into bitter seriousness on Sunday (28 May).
After a match, a brawl broke out with several people on the third day of the tournament. A teenager was seriously injured and then taken to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. At least this was confirmed by the perpetrator's lawyer and an official of the Hessian Football Association to the Frankfurter Rundschau.

On Tuesday morning, the responsible police authority, together with the Frankfurt public prosecutor's office, published their information on the course of the incident.
