The Bundesliga season is over, but a coach dismissal still follows: Borussia Mönchengladbach is parting ways with Daniel Farke.
Mönchengladbach – Borussia Mönchengladbach are parting ways with coach Daniel Farke after just one year. This was announced by the Bundesliga club from the Lower Rhine on Friday. Borussia are thus ending the planned rebuilding with the 46-year-old prematurely. Farke had only signed a contract until 30 June 2025 last summer.
"After several intensive discussions, Daniel Farke and we have come to the conclusion that we will go our separate ways," sporting director Roland Virkus was quoted as saying in a club statement. Actually, Farke should have initiated the upheaval of the team and achieved a better placement than in the past season. Borussia finished the season in tenth place again after a 2-0 win against FC Augsburg, but with 43 points, two fewer than the 45 points last year under Adi Hütter.
Gladbach fire coach Farke after disappointing season
Farke has been criticized by many fans for weeks. He was booed several times at home games. He doesn't take it personally, commented the Westphalian, who was unable to stabilize the team. Especially away from home and against opponents who were actually weaker, Gladbach often disappointed. In terms of play, no progress was discernible.
Nevertheless, Virkus had not withdrawn his confidence in the coach for a long time and emphasized at the beginning of May that he wanted to go into the new season with Farke. Two days after the 2-5 defeat at Borussia Dortmund on Matchday 32, he announced a detailed review of the current season. When, before the 2-2 draw at Bayer Leverkusen on the penultimate matchday, the "Rheinische Post" reported that the separation at the end of the season was certain, Virkus vehemently denied it.
Farke is like Hütter: Gladbach dismissal after only one year
Now the club, which also loses important players in captain Lars Stindl, Marcus Thuram and Ramy Bensebaini, has to start again with a new head coach after a year. Farke's predecessor Hütter's involvement at Borussia Park also ended prematurely after just one season. The club has not yet commented on Farke's successor. Former Leverkusen coach Gerardo Seoane has recently emerged as a candidate, with whom Borussia is said to have already met, according to Bild. Along with Farke, his assistant coaches Edmund Riemer, Christopher John and Chris Domogalla will also leave the club. (dpa)
