After AS Roma's loss to Sevilla in the Europa League final, coach José Mourinho is harsh on referee Taylor.

Budapest – AS Roma and their coach José Mourinho lost the Europa League final 2-5 on penalties to Spanish Europa League record champions Sevilla FC. For the Portuguese coach, British referee Anthony Taylor was partly to blame for the defeat. After the match, Mourinho met the referee in the parking garage of the Ferenc Puskás Stadium and angrily shouted "You're a fucking disgrace" in his direction, as seen and heard on a video from Sportitalia.

Mourinho annoyed by refereeing performance in Europa League final

At the press conference after the defeat in the Europa League final against Sevilla, Roma coach José Mourinho expressed his displeasure with referee Taylor: "Taylor and the VAR were afraid that something could happen in the end. So they decided to let them (Sevilla, editor's note) win quickly."

Mourinho recognized several decisions that Schiri Taylor whistled in favor of the Spaniards and was clear in his criticism: "The referee was Spaniard. There were so many yellow cards. And then when he had to give Lamela the second, he didn't give it. And then he (Lamela, editor's note) scored one of the penalties. It's an injustice."

Mourinho frustrated after losing Europa League final

In addition, a free kick from the Romans jumped to the hand of Sevilla's central defender Loic Badé, which referee Taylor did not penalize. Sevilla's Gonzalo Montiel's last decisive penalty also caused a stir for Mourinho. First, the Argentinian put his penalty on the post. However, after a VAR review, Taylor and his team opted for a replay of the penalty as Roma keeper Rui Patrício apparently moved too early.

In fact, Taylor's management of the game was not sovereign. Nevertheless, there were no crystal-clear wrong decisions by the 44-year-old. In the end, the frustration of the ambitious Portuguese, who had previously won all five finals on the European stage in which he participated, was understandable. Mourinho's outburst in the car park could still result in a punishment from UEFA, as could the illegal stadium visits of some Roma supporters. (jsk)
