Coming from qualifying, falling to world number 2 Daniil Medvedev in the first round, Brazilian Thiago Seyboth Wild left the tournament. His beautiful journey ended on June 3 in the third round on Court Simonne-Mathieu. The South American fell in 5 sets to Japan's Yoshihito Nishioka (No. 27) who won 3-6, 7-7, 2-6, 6-4, 6-0.
Not sure that the tournament will regret the small mustache of this Thiago Seyboth Wild who is at the 172nd place in the ATP ranking. The very serious Brazilian media O Globo publishes this same June 3 what would be an exchange of WhatsApp messages between the player and his ex-wife. According to screenshots revealed by Brazilian media, these exchanges date back to 2019.
"My great-grandfather was Hitler's predecessor"
In the conversation, the woman named Thayane, asks the man who would be Seyboth Wild, her boyfriend at the time: "Your mother doesn't like gays, blacks and Jews, right?" The player answers a laconic and frank "yes" before arguing his answer. He wrote verbatim to the woman who would become his wife to warn her: "My family on my mother's side is a Nazi." In another message, he continues: "I preferred to tell you now because if you don't want to go, I understand."
"Alcanza una frase para dar la dimensión del asunto: 'Mi familia por parte de madre es nazi'.

Thiago Seyboth Wild would have written in these same exchanges that he descends from a family of Nazi dignitaries, close to Hitler. "My great-grandfather, the father of my mother's father was Hitler's predecessor. He was the one who brought him from Austria (the dictator's birthplace) and taught Hitler about life."
Accused of physical and psychological abuse
Also on the messenger, Seyboth Wild would have sent some photos on which we see his grandfather posing with Nazi leaders in the 1920s or 1930s. In the aftermath of the war, Brazil, long ruled by a ruthless military dictatorship, served as a haven for fleeing Nazis. After the publication of the O Globo article, Seyboth Wild's entourage formally denied the existence of these messages.
Thayane Lima, to whom they were allegedly intended, later accused his former companion of physical and psychological violence, describing Thiago Seyboth Wild's gestures and words on social networks and filing a complaint. The case is still in the hands of the courts. Seyboth Wild was indicted in June 2022 for these facts, which he has always denied. "I don't think it's a topic to talk about. I do not think that is a question to ask here. I will say no more. You can write whatever you want," he concluded at a press conference after his victory over Medvedev. He has not since returned to the media as required by the rules.
