Novak Djokovic secured his place in the quarterfinals of Roland Garros on Sunday after lightly leapfrogging Juan Pablo Varias, the Peruvian ranked 94th in the world with an uncompromising 3-6, 2-6, 2-6.
The Serbian, ranked third in the tournament in Paris, will meet Karen Khachanov (11th, Russia) in the quarterfinals, who beat Italy's Lorenzo Sonego (48th in the world).

In the women's, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (Russia, 333) advanced to the quarterfinals with a surprise victory over Belgium's Elisa Mertens (28). Despite losing the first set, the Russian won 6-7 (3), 3-6 in the next two sets en route to the top eight in Paris.

Pavlyuchenkova will now jump more than 200 rungs in the rankings. She will next meet Karolina Mochová (43, Czech Republic) who beat Alina Evensyan (4) 6-3, 6-134.
