2023-06-04T03:30:56.928Z

Highlights: Yann Sommer signed for FC Bayern Munich in January. The 34-year-old was brought in to replace the injured Manuel Neuer. Manchester United had been mentioned as a possible buyer months ago. Villarreal, Valencia and Leicester are said to be looking for a goalkeeper. The Swiss still has a big dream in his career: the Euro 2024 in Germany. He was signed for eight million euros – part of this sum could flow back into Bayern's coffers as a transfer fee if sold after this season.

Yann Sommer's time at FC Bayern Munich seems to be over after only half a year. The Swiss needs match practice for his last big goal.

Munich – What's next for FC Bayern Munich? Ahead of the big Bundesliga final next weekend, the record champions are rumbling. The reason for this is probably the first titleless season since 2012. Behind the scenes, meanwhile, the chairs are already being moved – probably also with goalkeeper Yann Sommer.

Summer end at FC Bayern seems sealed: Farewell for the big dream?

The Swiss was signed by Borussia Mönchengladbach in the winter to replace the injured Manuel Neuer. The captain is currently working his comeback and is expected to train with the team again in pre-season. The end of summer? Pretty sure. Because the 34-year-old still has a big dream in his career: the Euro 2024 in Germany.

Of course, the former Gladbach player needs match practice at the top level for that. However, if Neuer is fit again, Sommer is unlikely to get exactly that and get the short end of the stick – his performances as number one in Munich were too manageable.

Many interested parties for Yann Sommer: As Nübel's replacement to Monaco?

Manchester United had been mentioned as a possible buyer months ago, but this trace now seems to be cold. The Kicker now reports (issue of 24 May) that there are enough other interested parties for summer. Villarreal, Valencia and Leicester are said to be looking for a goalkeeper. The fact that the Swiss has hardly any perspective in Munich because of the new return has been "long since registered".

Paradoxically, Alexander Nübel also plays a leading role. The Bayern keeper, who is currently still on loan at AS Monaco, will leave the principality. Accordingly, Monaco also needs a new keeper. Meanwhile, a Nübel return to the Isar seems to be out of the question because the former Schalke player does not want to be number two behind Neuer. So the goalkeeper carousel will turn violently this summer.

FC Bayern probably already had a quick summer sale in the back of their minds

Of course, the Bayern bosses had the plan of a quick summer farewell in the back of their minds. After all, he was signed for eight million euros – part of this sum could flow back into Bayern's coffers as a transfer fee if sold after this season. Sommer's contract would be valid until 2025. In winter, a long term was deliberately chosen in order to be able to call up a comparatively high price for summer in the event of a possible flash sale six months later. (akl)
