Match to be replayed, Bordeaux penalized, controversy over the state of health of the player... the fate of the match between the Girondins and Rodez is totally unclear. And we will have to wait a little longer to have the end of the story. The LFP disciplinary committee has announced that it will render on June 12 its decision regarding the incidents of the Ligue 2 match between Bordeaux and Rodez this Friday. Le Parisien takes stock.

What happened?

The match played Friday between Bordeaux and Rodez on the final day of Ligue 2 was definitively interrupted in the 22nd minute after the aggression, by a supporter, of the striker of the RAF Luca Buades. He had just opened the scoring and was celebrating his goal near the stand where the Ultramarines Bordeaux, the main group of Girondins supporters, are located.

The alleged perpetrator, a 45-year-old man, was taken into custody the day after the encounter with three other supporters. Member of the "Ultramarines", he lives in Annecy... that he could have indirectly relegated to National by his gesture ...

Why was the meeting definitively stopped?

"The player cannot resume because he is concussed. In collaboration with the team of delegates and the LFP, we respected the rules, namely that the match will not resume, "announced after a wait of 45 minutes the referee of the match, Nicolas Rainville.

In front of the press, the referee gave details on the state of health of the player a few minutes after the stoppage of the match: "He was examined by the doctor of the visiting club but also the emergency doctor on duty tonight. The elements are convincing, the player, since concussed, will not be able to resume the match (...) I rely on the medical certificate of the local emergency doctor. This player was taken for medical surveillance. »

I welcome the firm decision of the LFP to definitively stop the Bordeaux-Rodez match, taken in application of the crisis management protocol validated jointly by the State and French football.

Why is the state of health of the player controversial?

Initially, Lucas Buades was announced hospitalized. But, according to RMC Sport, which quotes the Bordeaux prosecutor's office, the player was not hospitalized and got back on the bus with his teammates. RMC specifies, through the voice of the deputy prosecutor, that the player filed a complaint on Sunday and was then examined by a forensic doctor, who found "no injury" on him.

The president of the Annecy club, engaged in a fight for the maintenance with Rodez, and who would see his team relegated in case of victory of the RAF on the green carpet, denounced a "masquerade" in the program "l'Équipe du soir" following this succession of contradictory information.

Why was this match decisive?

This match was important both for Bordeaux, engaged in a distance sprint with Metz for promotion to Ligue 1, and for Rodez, fighting with Annecy to avoid relegation. At 1-0, score in favor of the visitors at the time of the aggression of Luca Buades on Friday, Bordeaux missed the accession to the elite while Rodez escaped the descent.

What are the possible scenarios?....

The disciplinary commission of the LFP will therefore render its decision on Monday, June 12. It can decide to replay the match or to impose a points penalty on the Girondins de Bordeaux.

Bordeaux, who are now three points behind FC Metz, 2nd in Ligue 2, would see their dream of returning to Ligue 1 definitively buried in the event of a points penalty. If the match is to be replayed, Bordeaux must win by five goals to hope to find the elite.

As for Rodez, if the match is to be replayed, it will be necessary to impose itself on Bordeaux soil to hope to maintain. A green carpet victory would therefore also do the trick. In case of defeat or draw, the RAF is relegated.

... And what is the likely scenario?

For Bordeaux, the case law does not encourage optimism since the latest incidents involving fans and players have caused heavy sanctions for the host clubs.

For example, Nice received two penalty points (and one suspended) after excesses during the reception of OM in August 2021. Lyon lost one point after a bottle throw on Marseillais Dimitri Payet in November of the same year.

These matches, both stopped definitively, have certainly been replayed. But the situation this time is more complex while the season is supposed to be over. For its part, Bordeaux has postponed the holidays of its players by a week in view of a possible match to be replayed.
