It was expected and it is now recorded: the Trophée des Champions is postponed to January. In an interview with L'Equipe, Vincent Labrune, the president of the Professional Football League (LFP) confirmed that the holding of this competition, which will oppose Paris Saint-Germain, winner of the championship, and Toulouse FC, winner of the Coupe de France, was postponed.
Asked about the holding of the match, initially scheduled for August 5 in Bangkok in the National Stadium of Rajamangala, the former president of Olympique de Marseille said: "Indeed, it will not take place this summer in Thailand for reasons completely beyond the control of the League". He continued: "But it's ultimately a blessing in disguise. This will allow us to move it to a more favorable date, at the beginning of January."
The location of the meeting has not yet been mentioned. "We are currently working on three options, all abroad," added Vincent Labrune. The previous edition of the Trophée des Champions, held in Tel Aviv (Israel) on July 31, 2022, saw Paris Saint-Germain win easily against Nantes (4-0). Lionel Messi scored the first goal of the match, when Neymar scored a double.
