LaLiga approves Barcelona's viability plan, but will have difficulty signing Messi

2023-06-06T14:03:49.746Z

Highlights: Barcelona has agreed to reduce the size of its budget by 20%. The club has not yet agreed on how much it will spend on new players. The club will not be able to sign any new players until the end of the season. It will be possible to sign new players after the new season if the plan is approved. The new players will have to be approved by the club's board of directors before they are allowed to join the squad. The team will be allowed to sign one player at a time until the new players arrive.

The Barça club is still exceeded in the limit of template cost, although it will be able to register Gavi and Araujo and aspires to hire Iñigo Martínez

LaLiga has finally validated the economic viability plan presented by FC Barcelona. The pledge, however, does not mean that the Barça club can sign without conditions because it does not yet comply with the rules of financial fair play and must reduce a wage bill that exceeds 600 million. The authorization will mean, instead, that it can register players like Gavi and Araujo and surely also Iñaki Peña and Marcos Alonso. Much more complicated will be to close the signings that he intends if there are no transfers before; the most imminent is that of Iñigo Martínez, who already traveled to Barcelona, after the international center has not renewed with Athletic.

Although it admits that it has the approval of the League after some tweaks and adjustments in the plan made by the employers, Barça has not yet ruled on the conditions imposed by the entity chaired by Javier Tebas. Being exceeded in the cost of template, the operations of the club are subject to the rule of 40% and 20%: for each amount it saves in player salaries it can dedicate 40% to player registration and for each sale it can dedicate 20%, a context that at the moment does not exactly favor additions like Messi. La Liga, in any case, validates Barça's adjustment plan and will demand that the next two seasons be fulfilled, a challenge since the team will play until November 2024 in Montjuïc for the works of the Camp Nou. Barça has committed to comply with the plan and if it does not do so it is exposed to sanctions and to see its salary limit affected. With the approved plan, Barcelona could only spend between 10 and 15 million euros in the registration of players right now.

La Liga has already estimated at about 250 million euros the amount to be reduced by Barcelona. The planned reduction, which mainly affects ordinary expenses and the wage bill, has already been made effective with some dismissals and also with the announcement that the budget of the professional sections will decrease by 15%, a percentage that may cause the departure of emblematic players from the Palau Blaugrana. There are doubts about the continuity of Mirotic in basketball and in the handball team will not continue Ludovic Fàbregas, signed by Veszprem.
