2023-06-06T09:02:40.252Z

Highlights: TSV St. Wolfgang has been relegated to the district class for the second year in a row. Coach Stephan "Böff" Rottenwaller will no longer be available in the coming season. The club would like to announce a successor soon, but according to department head Bernhard Deuschl, nothing has been signed yet. "We are going into the new season with a lot of optimism. It's clear that the team has to do better in the holiday phase, which caused us problems this season and last season," he says.

Once again, TSV St. Wolfgang has secured a place in the district class via the relegation, this time with a 2-0 win against FC Fraunberg.

St. Wolfgang – This time, the Wolfganger kickers owe this to a large extent to firefighter Stephan "Böff" Rottenwaller, who, as an enthusiastic ultralight hobby pilot, likes to take off, but as a footballer and coach always keeps his feet on the ground.

But the coach, who came in for Harry Weiss during the round, will no longer be available in the coming season. The club would like to announce a successor soon, but according to department head Bernhard Deuschl, nothing has been signed yet.

Internally, it had been communicated in St. Wolfgang for some time that Rottenwaller would only fill the office on a transitional basis, Deuschl said in an interview with the local newspaper. Rottenwaller has been living with his family in St. Wolfgang for quite some time and is deeply rooted in the association. He coached the A-youth for five years and was asked to help out.

Rottenwaller will not continue as coach – but leaves the door open

"I had already been asked before Harry Weiß. That's when I said, 'No, I'm not going to do that.' I don't want to be kicked out after two years because something doesn't fit. After all, that's where I live. My children are in the club, my wife plays tennis there," says Rottenwaller. "I always want to help. But you know how it often is: If it doesn't work, they kick you out. And I didn't want that in St. Wolfgang."

That's why he said at the time: "If a coach is or wants to leave, then I can always step in for a certain time window." First he agreed until Christmas and then was ready to remain coach until the end of the season. "I leave with a crying heart. It's okay for me," said Rottenwaller, who also plays in the honorary league for FC Bayern. "

But I'm so sorry. We have achieved our goals, and that's why every player, including me as a coach, can leave the stage with my head held high," says the amateur pilot.

No matter which coach St. Wolfgang will go into the new season with, one thing is certain for Deuschl: "We are going into the new season with a lot of optimism. It's clear that the team has to do better in the holiday phase, which caused us problems this season and last season. I hope we've learned from that." The St. Wolfgang football boss alludes to the fact that TSV gave away a lot of points, especially during the holiday season, due to numerous absent players.

St. Wolfgang wants to learn from mistakes – momentum should be carried over into the next season

"We could have had it easier in the last two seasons. That's why I'm hoping that there will now be a learning effect," explains Deuschl. "The quality of the team is right. And we achieved our goal by staying in the league. But now we need to stabilize ourselves in the district class. And that's where we're aiming for a place in the midfield of the table."

It depends on the start of the season. They are building on the current squad. New signings have also not yet been made. "There is always some fluctuation. But the quality is there. It's not that we're not competitive in the district class," emphasizes the football boss. "But if something comes up, then of course we try to step up."

In the relegation match against Fraunberg, TSV "scored the goals at the right time", according to Deuschl, even if he complained that the game should have been decided faster with more goals. "It got exciting again at the back. FCF played a good game. In the end, we had more luck in the finish and an outstanding goalkeeper," Deuschl analysed.

Rottenwaller says that his team benefited from the good second half of the season in the relegation. "Of course we were nervous in the first 35 minutes, but then we caught ourselves well. Fraunberg had no compelling chances. It was fully deserved that we won 2-0," said the outgoing coach. He thinks it's good that the break is now longer than last season.

"In my eyes, this was complete madness. Now they have at least a four-week break and can regenerate. The start will certainly be different," says Rottenwaller and gives the team a helping hand: "I can only advise them to enjoy football with passion, to stick together and to fight. Then it will continue to work." He himself will now take off more often and devote himself more to aviation again.
