Fishing in the Allgäu – Injuries have repeatedly bothered him, now they are forcing him to end his active career: ski racer Manuel Schmid. The DSV athlete has now reluctantly hung up his skis - but wants to keep his great love.

The 2019 World Cup participant announced the end of his career in an emotional Instagram post. "Pfiadi Ski World Cup!
I love downhill skiing!" wrote the 30-year-old. His passion for his disciplines has been "great over all these years" and is "still great today".
Nevertheless, the brother of ski world champion Alexander Schmid made the decision to "hang up the racing skis." He made his debut in the Alpine World Cup in December 2017 at the race in Val Gardena.
DSV ace Schmid found the end of his career "very, very difficult" - many injuries forced him to take this step
The end of his career was a decision "that was very, very difficult for me," the ski racer confessed with a crying eye. "For a long time I was convinced that the path would have gone even further in the right direction, that it wasn't all I could show," "Manu" Schmid looked back wistfully.
But in the end, reason prevailed. As a result of many injuries – including being sidelined for months due to patellar tendinitis in his left knee – the 30-year-old "simply couldn't give 100 percent physically." This is no longer possible for him "especially in competition, when you have to move at or even above the limit in order to be at the forefront". The last time Schmid was seriously injured was two years ago.

Finally, he expressed his sincere gratitude to his loved ones and all his companions. And he also commented on his further career in the posting: "I will certainly remain loyal to skiing, which means so much to me," announced the downhill specialist.

"When one door closes, others open for it," Schmid wrote with a wink – and closed the chapter on ski racing: "With this in mind, Servus and we'll see you!"
His brother Alexander recently tore his cruciate ligament. In the meantime, however, the 2023 ski world champion has already shown up after an operation - with some reactions from the winter sports world. (wuc)
