After deciding not to wait for Barcelona and instead choosing Inter Miami to be his next team at the end of a two-year spell at Paris Saint-Germain, Lionel Messi gave an interview to Catalan newspapers Sport and Mundo Deportivo on Wednesday to explain the surprising move.
"I really wanted to come back and I was filled with expectations, but after what I experienced when I left, I didn't want to be in a similar situation again, waiting to see what happens and putting my future in someone else's hands," Messi explained. "I heard they should have sold players or reduced their salaries, and to be honest I didn't want to take responsibility for something like that. I made the decision to sign for Inter Miami. The deal hasn't closed 100% yet, there are still some details left to finalize, but we decided to move on. If I didn't go back to Barcelona, I wanted to leave Europe, get out of focus and think more about my family."
