WWE fans in the United States were deeply saddened by the news of the death of league legend Iron Sheikh at the age of 81. The wrestler, whose real name is Hossein Khosrow Ali Waziri, was born in Iran but became a global superstar in the 80s, winning the WWF World Heavyweight Championship in 1983. He previously competed for Iran's Greco-Roman wrestling team at the 1968 Summer Games, and then won the AAU National Title in 1971 after moving to the United States.
When he made the move to the WWF in 1979, he became an international superstar, along with competitors such as Hulk Hogan, Jesse 'The Body' Ventura and Andre 'The Giant' Rossimoff. In recent years, Hussein has contacted the new generation of League fans through a satirical Twitter page. Although it was not believed that he had made posts, personally, it was activated in his name and apparent greeting, using his combative, and often rude style.

"Today, we gather with a heavy heart to say goodbye to a true legend, a force of nature and an iconic figure who left an incredible mark on the world of professional wrestling," he said in a posthumous tweet from his Twitter account. "It is with great sadness that we share the news of The Iron Sheik's passing, but we also take comfort in knowing that he left this world in peace, leaving behind a legacy that will last for generations to come. Beyond the wrestling persona the world knew so well, the Iron Sheikh was a devoted family man."
