Uri Uziel missed the Olympic criteria in surfing
Surfer Uri Uziel came close Tuesday night to making history and qualifying for the Olympic Games in Paris next year after finishing the championships in El Salvador in 11th place overall, but fourth among European athletes, with one ticket going to each continent.
At the end of a busy week, Uziel was stopped in the fifth round, finishing third, where he lost to Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Kanua Igarashi of Japan, which moved him to the consolation house, but where he was stopped in the ninth round.
The happy news is that Uziel and the rest of the team have not yet run out of chances of reaching the Olympics, with the last tickets also being distributed at next year's World Championships and closing the list of 24 surfers and 24 surfers in the Olympic competition.
