2023-06-08T18:01:50.213Z

Highlights: Both the women and the men ended up in fifth and last place on the first two matchdays. For both teams, the main aim is to stay in the 1st Bundesliga. At the weekend, the golfers from the northern district will have their home game day. The pressure is always particularly high at home, so it's important not to let expectations get too high, says head coach Danny Wilde. "Of course we know that it will be difficult to keep the class, but everything is still possible and we will try everything," says Wilde.

Valley – The start of the Bundesliga season has been anything but optimal for the golf teams of the Valley Golf Club. Both the women and the men ended up in fifth and last place on the first two matchdays (we reported). There are still three matchdays to go. For both teams, the main aim is to stay in the 1st Bundesliga.

At the weekend, the golfers from the northern district will have their home game day - this can be both an advantage and a disadvantage. "The pressure is always particularly high at home, so it's important not to let expectations get too high," explains head coach Danny Wilde. "The players of the other teams know our place as well as we do, as we have hosted numerous tournaments and competitions in recent years." On the first two matchdays, the Valleyers had to struggle again and again with absences, the personnel situation has now improved a little. Maria Anetseder even refrains from participating in the Mid-Amateur European Championship in the AK25 age group in order to be part of the home match day. Chiara Hörder, on the other hand, is in action with the national team in England.

Coach: "Finish at least third"

The place of the only pro player allowed per team will be taken by Sarina Schmidt, who has just returned from a tournament in Sweden. The results of the ladies have recently been changeable, especially in the foursomes. Here, Anetseder and Barbora Bujakova will form a duo. Maxime Holletschek plays with Schmidt, and Antonia Treitinger tees off alongside Kamila Handrychova.

"Our goal for the ladies is to leave the relegation zone for the time being. For that, we should at least finish third at home," Wilde demands. The Valleyerinnen are currently two points behind the Fürth Golf Club. With a third place for the hosts and fifth place for Fürth, the deficit would be equalized again.

The starting position is more difficult for the men, who are three points behind the Mannheim-Viernheim Golf Club and the Stuttgart Solitude Golf Club, who are tied on points. "First of all, we have to find our way around the 1st Bundesliga. So far, all golf clubs have taken about ten years to establish themselves there permanently," says Wilde. However, the coach has by no means written off staying in the league. "Of course we know that it will be difficult to keep the class, but everything is still possible and we will try everything."

Men benefit from youth work

In addition to Nico Horder, who teed off again for the Valley men on the last matchday, the home team can also rely on Nicklas Borrmann again at the weekend, who has returned from college in the USA as a newly minted master. His debut will be made at the weekend by the only 14-year-old Michael Mayer, who has recommended himself for use with good tournament results. "This is where our work with young talent is paying off once again. He deserves it," says Wilde.

Spectators who want to keep their fingers crossed for the Valleyer teams are welcome at the facility on Saturday and Sunday. Since the rough is relatively high, golfers can be assisted on the fairway edges in their search for devious balls. The men's singles start on Saturday at 7.30 a.m., the women tee off at 8 a.m. On Sunday, the men start at 8 a.m. and the women at 8.30 a.m. Ts
