There is no doubt that with all the mutual and good will to reunite forces, and the future planning to give the greatest player in the history of the club a professional role after retirement, the relationship between Leo Messi and Barcelona is not the best. A striking sign of this can be found in the contradictory versions provided by each side of Messi's decision.
Just two days ago, Jorge Messi, the star's father and agent, was caught arriving at a meeting with Barcelona president Joan Laporta, at the end of which he explicitly told the media: "Leo wants to come back and I would love it to happen. We believe it's possible."
But tonight, Barcelona responded to Messi's selection of Inter Miami with a statement that included the following words: "Last Monday, Jorge Messi informed President Laporta of Leo's decision to join Inter Miami."

Add to that the hidden sting Barcelona sent Messi, when they responded to his expected MLS signing by claiming that he "chose to play in a less demanding league, away from the pressure he has been under in recent years."
Catalan Sport analysed the dramatic evening, with a commentary column saying: "Messi's interview disappointed many of the team's fans, changed plans for Xavi and surprised the management... Some hoped that Messi would wait, and that Barcelona might be able to sell Fati, Kassi and Ferran until Messi makes a decision... But with 'maybe' you don't convince the greatest of them all. He leaves with no remorse, no empathy for Barca. Laporta's fantasy was shattered."
