Champion of France 24 times, Véronique Jardin-Gastaldello died this Thursday, following a long illness, at 56 years old. A member of the Marseille swimmers' circle, she participated in the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 1984 and Barcelona in 1992. One of his last wishes was that his daughter, Beryl Gastaldello (28), world champion in the 4x50-meter mixed short course freestyle in 2022, participate in the France championships that open in Rennes this Sunday.

In a moving message posted on Instagram, she announced that she would honor this will: "Before leaving mom asked me to participate in these France championships, she asked me with all the strength that characterized her. I will be present in Rennes (June 11 to 16) but I simply ask everyone to respect my pain and my privacy. »
Beryl Gastaldello, who has already been crowned ten times at the national level, added: "Mom left to join Dad." She had already lost her father in May 2016. Also a swimmer, he won the 50-metre breaststroke France championship in 1984 and the 100-metre breaststroke in 1983.
