The 24 Hours of Le Mans will not be the only ones to blow out candles this weekend. In the Sarthe, Peugeot will celebrate the 30th anniversary of its victory with the 905 in 1993. An absolute triumph since the Lionesses had signed that year a resounding hat-trick, twelve months after having written his name for the first time on the list of winners of the event. But this coronation seems far away when it comes to the 91st edition, which marks the manufacturer's return to the event and endurance after more than a decade of absence.
Because if Peugeot, triple winner at Le Mans (1992, 1993 and 2009) had managed a big marketing coup by unveiling in July 2021 a 9X8 without rear wing, the results have not followed since this very (too?) audacious technical revolution. Back on the circuits during the season last year, at the 6 Hours of Monza, the two hypercars never managed to get on the podium, displaying disappointing performances and reliability that could be greatly improved.
