Good season, but not excellent
The process of building tension for the finals series was perfect. Two excellent teams, with the most depth and talent in the league, who have not yet lost in the playoffs, who finished a successful European season in the quarter-finals but with a sense of missing out, and did not win any significant titles this season after the cup remained in Jerusalem. Hapoel has not won the championship since 1969 and has not been to the finals since celebrating the second place championship in 2004, and was then defeated in the final series that ended with Efi Birnbaum's speech of silence of the sheep, and gave rise to the bad Final Four that clouded our basketball for years.
The ticket saga that Maccabi did not agree to transfer was supposed to create additional fuel for Hapoel's motivation, but in practice it only lit the red flames of the fans who defeated the metal detectors at the entrance to the arena. After the climax of the crossover series against Monaco in the Euroleague, one would expect Maccabi to shift gears and end the season with walking and difficulties. But the exact opposite happened. She bonded it even more, combining efficient play with fluent and often eye-catching basketball. All the players are in top shape, the threes come in at high percentages, and it seems very close to Oded Ketch's vision and method.
Maybe it's unfair to imagine where Maccabi would have been if it had played like this since the beginning of the season (new team, connection and other clichés), but I feel that if Alex Poythers hadn't come back and gotten so much credit, Maccabi would have at least reached the Final Four in Kaunas.
The difference between Maccabi with Poythers versus Maccabi with Roman Sorkin is like the difference between chamber music in a small room and a Philharmonic concert in the Heichal HaTarbut. Everything is better timed and orchestrated, more instruments are playing together, and there is adrenaline and excitement from something special that connects the actors. Sorkin understands the game and complements all the players next to him, moves to the right positions, takes nothing by force, and continues to diversify his game.

Maccabi's best minutes came when its three senior Israelis (and momentarily four) played together. I hope Minister Miki Zohar watched the game and understood that the idea of not restricting foreigners in the league must be buried with a donkey. And also that Avi Even and the heads of Maccabi will finally internalize that five excellent foreigners are better than ten mediocre, which will also make it possible to play with the same squad in the league and in Europe and stop grumbling about it. From a state of retirement contemplation, Cohen is today one of the most important players in Ketch's lineup, the brake and balancer, and the symbol of Maccabi's beautiful and smart basketball. Hapoel missed this year in the regular season. הבעיה העיקרית היא המבנה הכושל של ניהול הספורט, שעדיין הולך אחורה עד מרכזי הספורט שקמו לפני קום המדינה ונוכחים בהנהלת איגוד הכדורסל שמסמיך את מנהלת הליגה. כשאותם אנשים יושבים בהנהלת האיגוד, מנהלת הליגה, והם גם בעלי ומנהלי הקבוצות, אף אחד לא מייצג את האינטרס של הליגה והאוהדים, אלא רק את הקבוצות עצמן. ועד שלא יבואו בעלי הקבוצות ויתנו סמכות לגוף חיצוני אובייקטיבי לנהל את הליגה, לא נתקדם ולא נגדע את האלימות במגרשים. זה נכון גם לכדורגל. בזה אני מציע לשר מיקי זוהר לעסוק, ולא באינפלציה של זרים. והוא דווקא מבין בניהול ספורט.
