Alexander Nübel still aspires to be FC Bayern's regular goalkeeper. However, it is questionable whether this will become something in the near future.
Munich – As things stand, FC Bayern Munich has no shortage of good goalkeepers in the new season. In addition to Manuel Neuer, who is eagerly working on his comeback, Yann Sommer and Sven Ulreich are two goalkeepers in the squad who can boast a high level of the first division. And now Alexander Nübel is returning to the record champions after his loan from AS Monaco. What will happen to him, however, is uncertain.

Official: Nübel returns to Bayern after loan from Monaco
As AS Monaco has now announced, Nübel will leave the Ligue 1 club when his loan expires on 30 June. Two years ago, he was loaned to the principality by FC Bayern to gain match practice.
He quickly secured a regular place with the Monegasques through initially convincing performances and was able to settle in well with other prominent Germans in the city on the Mediterranean, among other things, in the form of a regulars' table. As a result, he made 97 competitive appearances for AS and has been on the pitch in every possible top-flight game since the summer of 2021. Nevertheless, after a few weaker performances, the Monegasques apparently did not plan any further with him and were not interested in further employment after the loan.
Nübel was supposed to return to FCB as a replacement in January
Whether Nübel now has a future in Munich is uncertain. He, who arrived from Schalke 2020 in 04, could have returned early from loan to the German record champions in the winter to replace the long-injured Manuel Neuer.
The Bavarians wanted to bring him back. However, Nübel decided, together with his loan club, AS Monaco, not to end the loan earlier than planned. As a result, the 26-year-old did not return to the record champions for the time being. Instead, Bayern signed Yann Sommer from Mönchengladbach. However, Neuer is likely to guard the Bayern goal again from the start of the season after his long injury break, the goalkeeper plan at the record champions is probably in place.

Nübel officially returns to FC Bayern: Three scenarios are now conceivable
For Nübel, there are now three conceivable possibilities. If he stays in Munich, he is likely to be threatened with a place in the stands. The competition from Neuer and Sommer is too strong. Sven Ulreich, the deputy in the budget, is also lurking.

And even if Sommer were to leave Bayern for his big dream and Nübel could become a substitute keeper, he doesn't want that himself. He ruled out a future as number two from the beginning of his time in Munich. Most recently, Nübel once again emphasised his ambition to remain at FC Bayern only as a regular goalkeeper. Since this scenario is likely to be ruled out, a change also seems realistic. A new loan – but probably to a club with higher ambitions – or even a permanent departure from Munich are possible. The former Schalke player would then probably be remembered as a bad purchase.
Tuchel plan with Nübel is unclear – low chances of playing at FC Bayern
Whether and how coach Thomas Tuchel plans with Nübel is unclear. In the short term, however, a future with the record champions seems very unlikely.
Another circumstance could complicate the situation for the 26-year-old, who has repeatedly had difficulties with ex-Bayern goalkeeping coach Toni Tapalovic. The new confidant could now return to Munich. (wuc)
