Mid-term conclusion: Balingen did well for a long time and showed concentration on the defensive. Time and again, a TSG player had a leg in between at the decisive moment. That's why VfB struggled at first, but after Millot's can opener, Stuttgart lived up to their role as favourites and went into the break with a deserved 3-0 lead.

7th minute: VfB run the ball and look for a gap in TSG's close-knit defence. The hosts have shed their initial nervousness and defend skillfully at first.
4th minute: Good start for VfB, who put the Balinger under pressure from the kick-off. Millot, in particular, is an asset in the first few minutes. At the moment, the Stuttgart leadership seems only a matter of time.

VfB coach Hoeneß expects Balingen to be an "unpleasant" opponent

Alexander Nübel is in goal for VfB Stuttgart
With Dennis Seimen, VfB Stuttgart have a goalkeeping talent that some have expected as a cup keeper. But VfB coach Sebastian Hoeneß does not want any experiments for the time being and is relying on Alexander Nübel, who is on loan from FC Bayern Munich. At the press conference ahead of the DFB-Pokal, Hoeneß said: "It's important that he plays. I don't know anything after that. He will be in goal against Balingen and will also start the season as number one."
Stuttgart will have to do without Deniz Undav
With Deniz Undav, VfB recently loaned out a promising striker from Brighton, but he tore a partial lateral ligament in his knee in training. He will be absent from VfB for several weeks, including the start of the competitive season in Reutlingen.
