With a 0-1 win over Everton on Sunday, Arsenal maintained a perfect away record this season in the Premier League with two wins by the same score. While Aaron Ramsdale has been among the rafters so far this season, yesterday at Goodison Park Mikel Arteta gave David Raya his debut in goal.
It is unclear whether the new Spanish goalkeeper is indicative of a change in status, but according to the Daily Mail, there are two teams who are already closely monitoring the Englishman's situation following the bench. The removal of Ramsdale to the bench has raised questions about Arteta's short- and long-term plans for the position, and the two teams already eyeing are Bayern Munich and Chelsea.
The London rivals signed Robert Sanchez this summer but are open to upgrades between the beams. The Blues have loaned Kepa Arrizabalaga to Real Madrid, and it is possible that next summer he will not return to London but will remain at the Blancos or move to a third team. Bayern Munich continue to be in the goalkeeping market despite signing Daniel Perez this summer, with Bavarians knowing that Manuel Neuer, who has turned 37, probably doesn't have many more years at the top.
After the win at Goodison Park, Arteta said of goalkeepers: "I can't have two players like that in a position and not use them. Evidence has great qualities, you have to take advantage of them." These statements are likely to indicate that Ramsdale is still in the plans and not that Raya has finally taken over the position, but England are curious to see how the Gunners will react if an offer above £60m arrives.
Raya arrived last summer on loan from Brentford for £3m, but the Gunners could make the deal permanent in the summer if they add £27m.
