Update from September 17, 16:28 p.m.: Liam Lawson is probably the surprise of the day! At Zandvoort, he was used for the first time to replace Daniel Ricciardo with his broken hand. Now he has even scored his first points and that in Singapore! The CEO of AlphaTauri told Sky after the race that the New Zealander has definitely earned a cockpit for next season. Nevertheless - Daniel Ricciardo should be back in the car from Qatar.

Update from September 17, 16:20 p.m.: It's the first time in the 2023 season that no Red Bull wins! Ferrari was able to end the winning streak in the 15th race of the season. Carlos Sainz wins in Singapore and takes his second ever victory in Formula 1. You won't find a Max Verstappen or Sergio Perez on the podium either. This time it was only enough for P5 and P8.

Singapore Grand Prix: A thriller in the last meters
Lap 62/62: IT'S THE LAST LAP HERE IN SINGAPORE. Sainz is still in front and can keep Norris in good shape. RUSSELL DRIVES INTO THE BARRIER AND MAKES THE MISTAKE IN THE LAST METERS. THIS MEANS THAT HE IS OUT OF THE RACE AND AWAY FROM THE PODIUM. SAINZ DRIVES AROUND THE LAST CORNER AND SNATCHES VICTORY IN SINGAPORE!
Round 61/62: However, the two Mercedes are now slowly struggling with their tyres and slipping a bit. Sainz can break away from Norris again, but we haven't had such an exciting battle for victory for a long time! By the way, Verstappen has finished behind Leclerc and will probably cross the finish line in P5!
Round 60/62: Norris is in the DRS window of Sainz, Russell of Norris and Hamilton of Russell. It's so tight and Sainz has just let it be known that he no longer has any grip on the front tyres.

Round 59/62: We just had yellow in the second sector because Albon had spun there! But the Thai was able to continue again and the track is clear again. Norris and Russell are now battling for P2. Sainz is happy, because he drives away a bit. Hamilton desperately wants to get past Russell...
Round 58/62: A real thriller among the top four! Lando is in Sainz's DRS. But Hamilton is also super close to Russell and sets the fastest lap. Of course, Russell wants to get past Norris in P2. So far it is not sure who will really come out on top!

Formula 1 in Singapore: Big battle for first place
Round 56/62: Six rounds left in Singapore! Russell is approaching Norris in big strides and wants his second place back. Sainz, meanwhile, is fighting for his first place in this race and is desperate to bring home the victory!
Round 54/62: Russell made it past Leclerc and is now on the podium and Hamilton also took the chance and overtook the Monegasque. Now the two Mercedes still have to take on Norris.
Round 51/62: Russell and Hamilton are getting closer and closer to Leclerc! With the new medium tires, they also have a clear advantage. Verstappen is now also past Liam Lawson - the man who virtually pushed him out of Q2 yesterday.
Round 47/62: Short shock for Alonso, who was just briefly on the board in sector three. Fortunately, however, I was able to continue driving again. By the way, Verstappen is happy that so many have come into the pits after all - because he has now moved up to P10 and thus officially in the points.
Round 45/62: The virtual safety car is over again and both Mercedes were back in the pits under the conditions to get medium tyres. Could well be if they make it past Norris and Leclerc! Otherwise, Russell will lose two positions.

Singapore Grand Prix: Ocon provides yellow flag & virtual safety car
Round 43/62: VIRTUAL SAFETY CAR! OCON IS IN SECTOR ONE AND HIS CAR DOESN'T MOVE AN INCH. HOW ANNOYING FOR VERSTAPPEN AND PEREZ, WHO WERE JUST AT THE PIT STOP.
Round 41/62: Verstappen also came into the pits and came out again in P15. There will probably be no more points for both Red Bulls today!
Round 39/62: Ocon made it past Perez. But now Alonso also wants to know! The Mexican is now really passed through to the rear, he simply has no grip on the tires anymore. Fortunately, he finally comes into the pits and can get new tires, with the mediums he is now supposed to finish and Perez drops back to the back of the field.
Round 37/62: Ocon, Perez and Alonso are currently engaged in the most exciting three-way battle of the race! Ocon passed Alonso when he tried to overtake Perez. Then Perez countered again, but now Ocon is super close! Really nice racing from the three of them, wow.
Round 34/62: Fernando Alonso is getting closer and closer to Perez. And the cars behind them are also becoming more and more impatient. There is very little space between Magnussen and Gasly, the two are fighting pretty hard with each other!

Formula 1 in Singapore: Exciting duels in the midfield
Round 32/62: There are still 30 laps to go and Verstappen says it feels like he's driving over ice right now. The Dutchman probably won't be able to hold his tyres much longer.
Round 29/62: Perez stops the entire middle grid! Behind them, the cars are already piling up - the crash potential is quite high here right now.
Round 28/62: Most of the drivers switched to hard tyres for the safety car. So the goal is to finish the race with them now. This could be a huge disadvantage for the Red Bull, because they still have to make a pit stop in any case! The grid is pretty tight together and more than 20 seconds go by at the pit stop! Whether Verstappen and Perez will be able to finish in the points at all is questionable at the moment.
Round 26/62: Finally, Leclerc has made it past the Red Bull. Now he absolutely has to make up for the time with Hamilton. Sainz tries to keep Russell at bay, but the Mercedes is going fast!
Round 24/62: Leclerc also tries to get past Perez, but just can't quite do it. On the track, the DRS has now been released again and Russell is just in the window so that the wing folds down.

Singapore Grand Prix: Sainz's great restart
Round 23/62: Sainz makes a great restart! Surprises Verstappen and drives away from him directly. Russell and Verstappen fight hard for P2, but in the end the Dutchman gives way to the Briton. Perez also had to give up his position to Norris!
Round 21/62: It's a shame, for Leclerc the pit stop didn't go well at all. Both Russell and Norris are past him. That's exactly what Leclerc had passed on by radio at the beginning! Alonso will also get a penalty for not getting the corner to the pits right and coming out of the line with all four wheels! Verstappen is happy at the moment, because he is in P2, behind Sainz due to the safety car
Round 19/62: Logan Sargeant has just driven his front wing into the gang and is now dragging part of his car under the tires and underbody. Now there is also the safety car because there are too many parts of Sargeant on the track. But the safety car can also help the Ferrari.
Round 17/62: For Hülkenberg, P10 is about a point in the drivers' championship. But behind him, Pierre Gasly is pressing the gas and is currently in the DRS window. Colleague Magnussen can't really keep up with Verstappen in P8.
Round 15/62: Russell. Norris and Hamilton are pretty close right now and they're getting closer and closer to Leclerc too! He is now supposed to put three seconds between himself and Sainz. However, the Monegasque makes it clear that he will be overtaken by Russell & Co. in the end!

Formula 1 in Singapore: Verstappen fights his way to the front of the field
Round 12/62: Sainz has now put a few meters between himself and Leclerc, the Monegasque is no longer in the DRS window. Verstappen is trying to get closer to Esteban Ocon in P8. He really wants to get on the podium!
Round 9/62: The two Ferraris can already pull away from the Mercedes after nine laps. More than two seconds separate Leclerc and Russell. However, Sainz and Leclerc don't seem to quite agree internally on who belongs at the front. There is a little fighting among each other...
Round 6/62: Hamilton has now made way for Norris and returned his position. Magnussen is still trying to keep Verstappen behind him. In a corner, however, the Dutchman was able to pass the Haas and is now in P8.
Round 4/62: Norris complains over the radio that Hamilton does not want to return the position. Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc grabs the fastest race lap, he is the only one in the top ten with soft tires. And Verstappen is engaged in a small battle with Magnussen! In any case, he doesn't seem to be able to get past the Haas just like that.
Round 2/62: Tsunoda is already out! After just two laps, the Japanese driver had to park his car - but the safety car is not available because he was able to drive directly off the track. Looks like a technical defect!

Singapore Grand Prix: Ferraris get off to a terrific start
Lap 1/62: THE LIGHTS ARE OUT AND THE RACE IN SINGAPORE BEGINS! GOOD START FROM THE FERRARIS! CAHRLES LECLERC PULLS RIGHT PAST GEORGE RUSSELL AND GETS BEHIND SAINZ. HAMILTON HAD TO TAKE AN EMERGENCY EXIT AND THEN PUSHES HIS WAY FORWARD A BIT, PAST RUSSELL. HE DOESN'T LIKE IT AT ALL! MAX VERSTAPPEN HAS IMMEDIATELY MADE UP ONE POSITION AND IS ALREADY IN P10.
Update from September 17, 13:49 p.m.: Less than 15 minutes left until the race starts in Singapore! There was just a short minute's silence on the ground because of the recent environmental disasters in Libya and Morocco.
Update from September 17, 13:26 p.m.: Liam Lawson in particular caused big surprises with his performance in qualifying. Meanwhile, the New Zealander is also in the fight for a real cockpit in the AlphaTauri in 2024. Actually, team boss Franz Tost was very sure with Yuki Tsunoda and Daniel Ricciardo for next year, but with Lawson's performance that changed again. The battle and the two cockpits are officially open!
First reported on September 17, 13:00 p.m.: The race starts in an hour and as Sky reports on site, some dark clouds seem to be moving onto the track. There have already been quite a few wet races this season and for some drivers - especially Max Verstappen - the rain would come just right!

Formula 1 in Singapore: Hulkenberg beats Verstappen in qualifying
Singapore - The majority of fans expected Max Verstappen to take pole position in Formula 1 qualifying. But the Red Bull seemed to have big problems all weekend in Singapore. Already in the free practice sessions it became apparent that Verstappen and Sergio Perez could not keep up with the pace of the other drivers. Things got really bad in qualifying! In Q2 it was over for both Red Bulls. "We didn't expect to be in contention for pole, but I didn't think it would go so badly. I don't think I'll be in contention for victory tomorrow," said Dutchman Sky.
Verstappen starts from P11 and teammate Perez from P13. Because of three incidents, the Dutchman even had to go to the stewards afterwards, but got off with a warning and a fine. Things went much better for Haas. Both Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen made it into Q3 and both start ahead of the Red Bulls. Particularly bitter: Rookie Liam Lawson, of all people, who is currently replacing Daniel Ricciardo in the AlphaTauri, promoted Max Verstappen to the end of Q2 and starts the race from P10.

Singapore Grand Prix: Lance Stroll misses the race
For Aston Martin, qualifying was also more of a day to forget. Fernando Alonso qualified seventh on the grid, but his teammate Lance Stroll will not be able to take part in the race. In Q1, his car got out of control at the corner entrance and the Canadian raced into the barriers at high speed. After that, his car was only a fraction of what it was supposed to be. Tires and parts of the car flew onto the track.
Stroll was able to get out of his car just like that after this horror crash and didn't seem to be injured. Nevertheless, he received medical care. Sunday morning came the nasty surprise for fans and Aston Martin: Lance Stroll will not be able to take part in the race, he still feels the impact in his whole body. Team boss Mike Krack also thinks this is the right decision: "Our priority now is to ensure that the recovery is quick but complete. We have decided together that he will sit out this race." There will also be no replacement driver for him - the decision to retire was too short-term. The race starts at 14 p.m. (CEST). (lhe)
