Sky pundit Didi Hamann has to cancel his appearance on Wednesday prematurely. The 50-year-old leaves the studio during the show.
Munich – What a first Champions League Wednesday this season from a German point of view. First, Union Berlin withstood pressure from Real Madrid on their 90-minute Champions League debut at the Bernabéu, only to suffer defeat at the last minute. Before Bayern later extended their incredible run in the Champions League group stage (14th win in a row, unbeaten in 35 games) and beat Manchester United 4-3 at home after a wild final phase.

Hamann in action as an expert for Sky Austria
Another German didn't even notice that. We are talking about Didi Hamann. The Sky expert was supposed to analyse the games in his usual function and was also on site in the studio with presenter Constanze Weiss and ex-striker Marco Janko at the beginning of the show.
Why Sky? Although the pay-TV broadcaster no longer has broadcasting rights for the Champions League in Germany, it does have broadcasting rights in Austria. That's why Hamann had been scheduled on Wednesday with Weiss and Janko for the broadcast on Sky Austria.

Didi Hamann loses voice during the broadcast
In the middle of the show, however, it was suddenly no longer Hamann who was part of the three-man round, but former Austrian striker Marko Stankovic.
Presenter Weiss explained the unusual substitution live on the show as follows: "Didi Hamann is unfortunately ill, he lost his voice in the course of the show here with us. That's why we sent dear Didi home."

Hamann actually scheduled again on Thursday
Finally, the moderator wishes Hamann a speedy recovery and explains to Stankovic what big footsteps he is following. Hamann's next appearance was actually planned for the Europa League on Thursday, but it is not yet known whether the Sky expert will be fit again. (kk)
