Bavaria's basketball world champions visit the Oktoberfest
Germany is the world champion – in basketball. While the DFB announced the dismissal of Hansi Flick, the DBB team triumphed almost simultaneously at the Basketball World Cup in the Philippines. The German national team, led by captain Dennis Schröder, defeated Serbia 83-77 in the final.
It was the greatest success in German basketball history. So far, the 1993 European Championship title has been considered the highest of emotions. The title was then duly celebrated. For three FC Bayern world champions, the title party continued at the Oktoberfest in the Paulaner tent. Andreas Obst, Isaac Bonga and Niels Giffey heated up the crowd.

FC Bayern's world champions celebrate at Oktoberfest: World Cup heroes roar famous Oktoberfest hit
While the FC Bayern footballers will not play at the Oktoberfest until next Sunday after the Bochum game, the basketball players have already completed their visit on Tuesday. The world champion trio roared exuberantly on the benches the hit "We are the Champions" by Queen - World Cup hero Obst stood out in particular and animated the passing Oktoberfest guests, who diligently expressed their congratulations.
At a later hour, Obst, Bonga and Giffey even hijacked the music stage and sang the famous Oktoberfest cult song "An Tage wie diesen" by Die Toten Hosen. Of course, the Laola wave was not to be missed afterwards. Before that, the basketball world champions paid a visit to the footballers at Säbener Straße.

Bavaria's world champions Obst, Bonga and Giffey at training at Säbener Straße as guests
Bonga, Giffey and Obst had watched the record champions' training session on Monday – and in the end their feet itched. The trio showed that they don't just have talent with their hands. Isaac Bonga, whose brother Tarsis plays for TSV 1860 Munich and who cheered on the World Cup title at home, had only sunk two squeaky clean shots in the goal wall shootout on Saturday evening in the ZDF sports studio, cheered by his national team colleagues and national coach Gordon Herbert. This time, Andi Obst conjured up chopping tricks on the green on Säbener Straße.
"I think it's great that our three basketball world champions have come here to Säbener Straße to meet with the footballers," said President Herbert Hainer, "this World Cup victory is a huge success for German basketball and German sport as a whole: clear proof of what can be achieved with team unity and team spirit. FC Bayern had the most players in the team with three players. We are very proud of our trio of world champions."
Bayern's world champions Obst, Bonga and Giffey meet Kimmich, Müller & Co.
After FC Bayern's training session, German internationals Joshua Kimmich, Serge Gnabry, Thomas Müller and Manuel Neuer came to congratulate him. Coach Thomas Tuchel also spoke to Obst, Bonga and Giffey.
"It was very cool to be here, to talk to the boys, Herbert Hainer and Thomas Tuchel and to get congratulations from them," Obst said. "It's nice to be back in Munich. You realize more and more what you have achieved. It just makes you proud and happy about what it means for other people and how it has been received in Germany."
Bayern basketball players have to go to training the morning after visiting the Oktoberfest
By the way, the next morning after the Oktoberfest excursion, training was announced again for the party-mad basketball players. The 2023/2024 season begins for the cup winner on Friday, September 29 (20 p.m.), with the big BBL opener on Glassfloor Court against MBC. Except for the final, the World Cup was not shown on free TV, so basketball fan and Bayern patron Uli Hoeneß shoots against ARD and ZDF. (ck)
