Jerome Boateng is not done with justice. The former German international footballer, sentenced on appeal in November 2022 to a fine of 1.2 million euros, has just seen this first court decision annulled. A new procedure for the same facts, dating back to 2018, will be opened.
The highest court in Bavaria granted the three parties' requests for review. Procedural irregularities have been invoked and a new trial will take place at an unknown date. The 35-year-old former German international is therefore again prosecuted for assault, injury and insults against his ex-girlfriend. According to her, the 2014 world champion hit her during a holiday in the Caribbean in 2018, after the pitiful elimination of Germany in the first round of the World Cup in Russia.
Boateng still denies the facts
He had first thrown various objects at her, had "stuck an eye with his thumb, bitten and pulled to the ground by the hair". He has always denied the charges against him.
The justice ruled on Thursday in favor of the defense of Jerome Boateng, who disputed the fact that one of the requests for recusal of a judge, during the previous proceedings, had been decided by a body in which the same judge participated. The requests for review made by the prosecutor's office and the player's ex-girlfriend were also heard.

The latter disputed the fact that the throwing of an insulated bag, blamed on the former Bayern player, could have caused simple injuries. The court did not specify whether the bag was considered a dangerous object or not, which could have led to a heavier penalty.
The former Lyon defender is still without a club since his departure, at the end of his contract, from OL last June.
