Julian Nagelsmann is likely to be the new national coach. At the DFB, the 36-year-old meets his former Bayern players.
Munich – Julian Nagelsmann is supposed to fix it. The 36-year-old seems to be taking over Germany as national football coach until the home European Championship in 2024. The matter is not yet official, but the negotiations will probably no longer fail. For Nagelsmann, it is the second biggest possible coaching task in Germany after his stint at FC Bayern.
Nagelsmann meets seven FCB players for the national team
And also a reunion with some players from his time in Munich. There are seven of them, who under normal circumstances probably belong to the permanent circle of the national team. Manuel Neuer, Leon Goretzka, Joshua Kimmich, Jamal Musiala, Leroy Sané, Serge Gnabry and Thomas Müller.
The question arises: What do the Bayern stars think of the reunion with their ex-coach? After all, rumours quickly made the rounds after his release that Nagelsmann had lost the dressing room – as they say in football.

Kimmich and Goretzka as great advocates of Nagelsmann
Former FCB sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic had meaningfully emphasised at the time: "The constellation between Julian Nagelsmann and the team was no longer suitable." Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka proved most impressively that this did not apply to all players.
Kimmich spoke of "little heart, little love" following Nagelsmann's dismissal, while the decision for Goretzka was a real "shock". The two midfielders were considered the 36-year-old's biggest advocates during his time in Munich and are likely to be most looking forward to the reunion.

Sané looking forward to seeing Nagelsmann again
Leroy Sané and Serge Gnabry are also unlikely to have any reservations about their ex-coach. Gnabry already worked with the new national coach during his time at Hoffenheim and was also set most of the time in Munich. "I have a very good relationship with Julian," Sané said in April, confirming during the last international matches that he would be looking forward to seeing him again.
On the other hand, the relationship between Nagelsmann and youngster Jamal Musiala is said to have been not quite as outstanding. According to Sport Bild, contact between the two was "not always easy". However, these statements are not substantiated. But it is also a fact that Musiala was always set under Nagelsmann, but did not always perform at his best, especially in the months after the World Cup in Qatar. But this also applies to the advocates Goretzka, Kimmich, Gnabry and Sané.
Neuer and Nagelsmann with tense relationship
That leaves the two veterans Thomas Müller and Manuel Neuer. Müller was not an undisputed regular player under Nagelsmann and reacted to his dismissal in his usual professional manner. However, it is probably not possible to speak of a strained relationship between the two.
The situation is different with Neuer. The Tapalovic bang hit Neuer hard after his injury and was instigated by Nagelsmann at the time. In the much-noticed SZ-interview, Neuer replied when asked about his relationship with Nagelsmann: "I exchange ideas with Julian and work professionally with him." However, it is an open secret that there is a huge interpersonal problem between the two.
For Neuer, the Nagelsmann appointment shortly before his comeback is probably the most unfavorable. The rest of the Bayern stars are likely to play an important role in the national team under Nagelsmann. (kk)
